~~Question about nursing prereqs/ school...?~~?

If i dont maintain a GPA of 4.0 in the prereqs, should i go in another direction besides nursing school, such as RT or something?

Is it possible to get into Nursing School w/o a 4.0? I'm a bit confused..?

Yes, it's possible, but try your hardest anyway. Most nursing programs have a "points system" where you are awarded more points for a higher GPA, completed pre-reqs and gen ed requirements, a higher ACT score, etc., so the higher the GPA the better off you'll be - at any school.

Some schools reveal their admissions average GPAs - one school I looked at had an average admissions GPA of 3.8, another 3.4. But I know people who have gotten in with less than a 3.0.

GPA isn't everything. There's some brilliant students out there who get to a patient's bedside and simply cannot do the job, can't relate to their patients, can't put their assessment data together to figure out what their patient needs, etc.

Study hard, you'll be fine.

Its more than possible. It's normal!

Will you be going to Johns Hopkins? Probably not...theyre extremely competitive. But theres plenty of good nursing programs available for the rest of us normal students. Look into BSNs at 4-year schools. Keep yourself about a 3.0 and you should be good to go!

By the way, I had a 2.8 high school GPA and an SAT score just under 1100. I got into a state university (UMBC) and got a 3.2 in pre-requisites. I'm now in a top nursing school (Univeristy of Maryland at Baltimore) and about to graduate in May.

Don't be concerned...just study hard and do your best!
