Nursing School and Drug Addiction?

I had a friend who was a recovering addict with a criminal record who wanted to get into nursing school. She made it.

I have another friend who is a recovering addict with no criminal record who wants to get into nursing school. She is torn between telling them about her addiction and facing those consequences or not telling them and praying that they don't find out.

Any advice?

Thanks ahead of time.

TELL THE TRUTH!! If caught lying afterwards, it will be even worse!

Don't ever offer unsolicited private information to anyone unless forced.

All nursing schools and colleges admit students based on a criminal background check. If she has had no prior arrests or has been clean for a long time, then it should come up ok.
But if she has any past criminal history, psychiatric admissions to hospitals, or anything of that nature, it will show up. Better to tell them ahead of time or answer truthfully on the apps.

I wouldn't offer such information unless asked directly. It's definitely not a good idea to lie, so make sure she doesn't do that. But if they don't ask, don't tell them about it. If they do ask, she had better be honest. Even if they just "expect" her to report something like that, it's best to be honest. If she can list how long she's been clean or do anything to admit it with a positive attitude, that's the best strategy.
