Nursing School AND Work at the same time.?

I will be attending Nursing school in the fal of 08. When looking at the schedual for the classes they seem far to extinsive each week to hold a job at the same time to live on. How is one expected to live and go to nursing school at the same time? Any tips?

You can either attend school part-time and work, take out a loan, or just suffer through it with a full-time job and a full range of classes. Mix and match... find what works for you.

It is possible to work and go to nursing school, but you won't have much of a life. My girlfriend is in the process and our relationship has suffered a little.

She works part time at two jobs (adding up to about 35-40 hours a week), takes part in a psychology lab about 5 hours a week, takes judo with me 3x a week at a nearby university, and she attends nursing classes at another local college. Some of the classes require a lot of study, so even when she's home, we don't get to do much. She also has loans (mostly from her psychology degree)... including $1000 I gave her for this past semester.

honey you can do this but this is very exhausting. maybbe you should just take only a few classes or try some prerequisites online. just manage your time wisely.

It's hard. And the thing about nursing courses is that even though on paper it's 6 or 8 semester credits, it feels like you're doing the studying and workload for 12-15. It's rough.

It's virtually impossible to work full-time, and even part time can be difficult. I worked on campus as a student tutor, and took out a TON of loans. I wasn't thrilled about it, as I now have a $40k debt, but in the long run, it is worth it. I simply could not have done it without the loans. There's no way. And with my salary now, it won't take too many years to pay off, it's not as scary once you're licensed and getting a paycheck.

It's very hard, I know because I did it. I would work weekends, 3-11 or over nights and go to school during the day. There were many days where sleep just didnt fit in.

Loans, live with your parents, or go part time. I ended up working part time my last semester because I physically couldnt do it any longer.

You're not starting til next fall, try to get in all of your pre-reqs before then. Take classes over the short winter break, whatever you can this and next semester, both summer classes. It'll be alot of work but it will make it easier for you when you start nursing classes if you dont have to divide your focus.
