Nursing school....?

Ok, I graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and worked as a case manager for the mentally ill. Now I am inspired to go back to school to pursue psychiatric nursing. Is anybody in nursing school right now? Is anybody a psychiatric nurse? Here's my schedule for the fall......

What can I expect in nursing school? Any tips????

What can you expect from nursing school? Well its rigorous, very rigorous. I hope you plan on allocating 3 hrs a class like I do for study time. Anatomy and physiology is an enjoyable challenge but its important you get an A+ now. Why? Because when you take Pathophysiology, Medical Microbiology, and other courses your going to need your A+P knowledge as a foundation. Know it like you know your hand. Nurses may seem sweet and some are, but make sure you follow their rules, what the uniform requirements, immunizations, etc. I know a girl that missed her immunizations and she wasn't able to take the course and it threw her whole schedule out of whack. Don't let your GPA fall below 3.3-2.5 while your doing your basic stuff (like the core courses you're taking now)...why? Because you want a cushion from when it gets harder with things like Older Adult health your hell year and senior year. Be cautious but don't let your fear rule you, do your best and good luck!

Above is a link to the psychiatric nursing forum. There are some pretty interesting experiences to be had! Report It

Everything comes very fast. Clinicals are very busy. I had four courses at once (core). You will be fine, just allocate plenty of study time.

First of all I applaude you. Short and sweet, academically expect only the basic. But follow it up with clinical experience at a teaching facility, all the while thinking/planning how you see yourself 5yrs post RN accomplishment. A great way to open many doors and the wonderful feeling to know you've made some comfortable by a helpful word. Enjoy your studies never forgetting the mind-body connection. Newly retired RN
