I am 34 and i have a cousin who is 20, iv only just found out shes cutting herself?

i found out by asking what happened to her face she had 3 major cuts on her face but the excuses she gave i realized she wa hiding something, i am a training nurse so iv spotted it sooner but i dont know how to talk to her should i wait for her to come to me or do i confront can anybody give me any advice on what to do i dont want to push her away as i have only just got her confidence please help!!
she dosent know i know she is cutting herself but there arnt just cutts on her face, there are random marks everywere and they keep appearing lke strainght cuts accross her arms, she said she had burnd herself pouring a hot drink from the steam but the burn was on the inside of her elbow there are so many and i dont know how many more ther are, maybe it could be a test of if anyone cares bcause she duznt get on well with her parents or anthing do u think shes looking for some1 whos jsut there for her???

i used to cut and still get urges to do so.

it's usually when i'm stressed or upset and am unable to deal with how i feel. i don't know how to release stress or anger and i end up taking it out on me.

mine was not an attention thing, i usually cut where no one could see. and even now, if people see them, i make excuses that it was something else.

the best thing you could do for her is be there for her, as you say. ask her if she's stressed or worried or upset about anything and let her know you are there for her if she needs to talk. tell her you won't judge her and nothing is that bad that it can't be talked about.

good luck.

ok get her some mjor help a siciatrist and u realy need to stop her but dont be to hard. dont give her any ideas because she might hurt you too in the procces.

she probably does need someone. i can't give much help since i've never experienced something like this first-hand, so i wish you the best of luck :)

people that do this are in allot of emotional pain. this is allot of work but if something is not done you will definitely lose her.

ok so you have to tell her parents, i mean this can not go on, you are a nurse, so if you know a doctor or something you can ask him for help, and if you ever decide to ask her just be like totally cool about it, and most important make sure she has all of your attention, cuz maybe she is only doing it because of the attention she wants to get from other than her parents
