House training?

My puppy is 7 wks. We have had her for almost 3 wks (mommy stopped letting the pups nurse). I can't for the life of me get the dog to go potty in the yard...she has to go on the porch or inside...Any suggestions?

it's not like I went and kidnapped the dog...they were going to just let them loose at the park!

the little one will have to go out about every two hours or about 15 minutes after eating/drinking. keep to a schedule.
if there is an accident indoors, wipe it up with paper towels, put them in a zip lock bag. next time it's time to go out, put the soiled towels on the ground for her to sniff. she'll get the message. praise and treat!

the rule of thumb is one hour for every month of age, plus one.
a three-month old pup can hold it no longer than four hours. the rule about eating/drinking remains the same. don't wait more than 20 minutes to get them outside. don't give in until they go.

be patient. she's a baby. but don't let her train you. ;-)

He to young

:D

Crate training works best. It's the only thing that worked for me.

Just google search "crate training" and you'll get all kinds of stuff. It seems mean but it really works and the dog isn't harmed.

why not...what's wrong with going outside...was the pup scare...doesn't have grass? used to going on the porch? Besides, your pup is only 7 weeks and most likely doesn't have all her shots yet...let her use a wee wee pad for now. Pet stores like Petsmart or petco has potty training classes, you might want to sign up

No excuse for getting a dog at 4 weeks. even if the mom would not let him nurse, there is so much to learn from the mom and littermates.

Crate training will help with house training. at that age they will be going every 1-2 hours.

with the age of the pup, i dont think id start trainning her right now. shes still a pup-7wks so. if ya wanta go ahead you can try giving her treats when she DOES go outside in the yard! Good luck

whenever she potties take her to that spot you want her to go and then give her half of a treat and then when she goes there on her own give her a whole treat and then she will learn it will take awhile but it is worth it

ever seen bruce almighty? use his technique! it's actually pretty good! it's called classical conditioning..

How long are you spending with her outside?
Is she on a leash?
Are you using a kennel to housebreak?

Always let your puppy out the moment she finishes eating or drinking and stay out there for at least 10 minutes. This should help with indoor problems. Look into crate training too.

Also, while she is eliminating start using a command. This way you can train her on command to eliminate. I use "do your business", and keep her on a leash and make sure you stay in the yard area. This way she has no chance to get near the porch.

She's a baby, and you have been expecting to much from her! Normally you wouldn't have her til now or another week from now. Just set your timer and take it outside every 20 minutes. Keep her in the grass and when she does go, make a big deal of it, tell it good girl and even give her a treat. Do this all day and in a very short time she will be trained. Dogs want to please you so if you make a big deal when she does do something you want, she will want to do it again! If you keep up with her, she should have the hang of it in the next month, then you can start teaching her to speak at the door so she will alert you when she has to go! Good luck with her.

Just after the pup eats or drinks water, take her outside to where you want her to pee. Then wait. If she pees praise her and pat her and maybe a small treat. The idea is to "catch" her going outside and reinforce that behavior. The pee on paper towels in plastic bag sounds good. Newspaper works just as well, why WASTE them on pee? Pun intended. Good luck.
