Nurse shortage? |
If there is a free market for the skills of new nurses, what can you predict is likely to happen to the wage rate earned by individuals who have just completed their nursing training? From my experience nurses are desperately needed is certain areas of the hospitals....i.e. ICU, burn units, telemetry floors. The hospital will offer a great sign on bonus when you start but they will only pay according to years experience. Even though there is a shortage we still don't get paid what we are worth, (at least in the beginning). Good Luck! Yes, there's a shortage and this is one field that I hope women will take advantage of because I can't stand boy nurses. You should expect to see a better starting salary as a new nurse. Depends on the level of training. LPN's aren't in high demand, so their pay rate should remain fairly steady. RN's will probably be able to command a fairly nice pay rate, especially within the next 6-8 years.BSN's (That is to say those with a Bachelor's degree in nursing) I don't foresee a great change there either (RN's are much more practical) Likewise with MSN's (those with a Master's Degree in Nursing) i hope the pay is good b/c i am in school now to get my cna and then when i finish that i am going for my lpn They expect continued shortages of nurses for the next twenty years, as the population is getting older and a big group of nurses is retiring. The wage rate is going to climb and remain strong. This is a career that you can enter now, expect to work you whole life at if you want to and get good pay and benefits during that time. Enjoy. Nurses are in short supply in my markets across the country. Unfortunately a lot of these openings are in areas such as trauma where you meet a lot of unpleasant events. Nurses are also in demand in areas where the hospitals may not be quite up to par or wages are generally lower. |
