Opt out of navy when they lie to you prior to basic training?

My son was promised training and then held up for two nights with no sleep and then signed papers then was advised he couldn't do nursing as promised - can he opt out

no. he should have read what he signed... they basically revoke any promises they may have made....

edit: yeah, held up? sounds fishy!!!

Your son is lying to you. If he was held up for two nights its because he was partying. If he hasn't given the oath he can come home to mama. The navy is having no problems meeting their recruitment goals.

Your son isn't telling someone the complete truth because that doesn't happen. You don't go anywhere where anyone can keep you up for any amount of time until after you've already signed a contract. If your son signed a contract that was just a general contract, he messed up.

If he is in the DEP program, yes. He has to write a letter to his Commander stating that he has decided not to join after all. They won't make it easy for him, but he is technically not in the NAVY until he swears in the second time the day he ships. He can try to get his MOS changed, but that is harder to do. But if he doesn't report, they can't come get him. He just needs to contact his Commander ASAP. If he hasn't already, he will get a letter telling him who is his chain of command is.

Not if he swore an oath!

someone correct me if im wrong. but im pretty sure that for the navy or the marines, that after your BT you take an additional test to qualify you for your MOS (job). im assuming that he didnt qualify at that time. now if he had gone ARMY he would have his job in his hand via FSR2 (Future Soldier Remote Reservation) before he left his recruiters office, prior to MEPS.

as it is he's stuck if he has already shipped. you shouldve done a little more service shopping before he made the decision.

Something doesn't sound right. I have never heard of anyone being held up for two nights without sleep. In fact there are regulations that trainees have to get 8 hours of sleep in their training schedule. They do have to pull guard for an hour or so during that time.

Before training at MEPs, they cannot force you to do anything. The Navy is actually downsizing so they are not holding people back that change thier minds at all.

Also, Nursing is an officer program. You can get into medical fields as an enlisted, but nursing require college. Navy recruiters are not desperate so they don't hide things as much. Same with the Air Force.

Someone is not telling the whole truth. If he failed an assessment for a MOS, he can pick a new one, but if he decided not to pick one, they won't stop him from leaving.

How can they keep anybody from getting sleep at night during MEPS? The place shuts down at around 3:00pm.

If your son is enlisting, nobody could have promised him a nursing position, that is an officer position. If he meant corpsman, maybe his ASVAB score was not high enough.

Sorry, but it sounds like it is your son who is not being truthful.

nope. he signed a contract., if he was found somehow inelgible for HM they have every right to send him to another A school. additionally, if HM wasn't available as an option when he went to MEPS, then it will not be in his contract..meaning he could have opted out at that point, but not afterwards.

besides: HMs are not nurses, only Officers are Nurses and they must have a BSN in hand to apply for a commission.
