REALLY need ADVICE ON THIS..do u THINK A CNA (NURSING ASSISTANT) IS worth it-money wise and job wise? |
HI whatsup..i'am 18 years old and i'am turning 19 in one month and i'am guy. I want to go into the medical field ..be a doctor basically. But right now i'am training to be a CNA also known as a nursing assistant, just to get some money part time you know. Today at traning, it was really disturbing, cleaning people naked, brushing them up, you know that kind of stuff. My question is , do you think it is acutally worth being a CNA, money and job wise, is the job i mean ,, you know , good? As a former CNA...I am now an RN I feel that being a CNA is a necessary stepping stone to your field. I know a Resident who started out as a phlebotomist and CNA 1st to get the "full feel" of this profession. Also one of the young men I work with is a pre-med major and he is supporting himself while taking his classes as a CNA. This way when he enters the program as an intern he won't have 2 work with the co. we work for paying 4 his school. Just appreciate the job and earn some $ while doing so....U can't truly be a people person(and a Dr. should be) if u can't even toilet or shower a person who needs u. What about when u examine a woman for a gyne rotation? Or u have 2 perform a phys. assessment 4 your teacher thoroughly 2 pass your class? Remember this is the door 2 many healthcare occupations and u will always get a job somewhere as a CNA. CNA's are in a pretty decent demand these days. There is money to be made in the field. I do agree with the others that answered, but I have my own thoughts on that. Yes it doesn't take long to get certified, but for the years down the road, I think it would be a wise choice to look more into MA, LPN, RN. I have grown up all my life with family that has been in the medical field. This is what I have seen. CNA's while being rewarding, your a butt wiper. You do the dirty work. I've seen many just lose the love of what they are doing, mostly because of they really don't get the recognition they deserve. I'm not saying that for all, this is just what I have seen. There is money to be made in the medical field, but you could double or triple your income by just going to school for a while longer. But none of that matters as long as you are doing what you love to do. Good luck I suggest that you find out what your priorities? Did you enroll in the CNA program not only to earn part-time but also to "get your feet wet" in the medical field. I think anyone going into the medical field who will be have contact with patients should be required to be CNA for some duration of their training. When I first went thru my training, it was a little weird/awkward doing those things--but if you have a professional attitude about it, you'll get over those "weird & awkward" feelings and it becomes feeling more like protocol. Of course being a male CNA, you may come across times w/female patients who would prefer a female CNA...which is natural--dont take it personal. But yeah, for you to just be starting out and wanting to make money on the side its a good job. Plus you'll get to see other areas of the medical field and it will get you more comfortable when you begin working on the floor. Doctors may not bathe patients etc., but they do examine them, and depending on what area you go into, most likely youre not going to escape the "nudity" part of it. |
