Alternative job to nursing? |
I left my full-time secretarial job to study nursing about five years ago. I completed three years training and went down the mental health route. However, I didn't feel the job was for me. I struggled getting to grips with medications. Although I enjoyed helping the patients, I found the work quite confrontational and to be honest, pretty depressing at times!! Towards the end of my training I fell pregnant and I have been a full-time mum since. My son's going to nursery soon and I need to decide what I want to do. I don't want to waste my training so was wondering if anyone knew of any jobs I could do that would utilise my nursing qualification, without actually being a nurse!!! I am prepared to do further study if necessary. I understand mental health nursing can be hard. It's not for everyone (I was a psych nurse for a few years). Medical Imaging is good field. I've been doing it for decades. How about staying with the caring side and going into childcare, ie the social side of things. Health care assistant. Follow this link. Or how about doing Home Help through your local council - you go into an Elderly Person's home several times through the week (depending on the help they require) to help them load/unload the washing machine, do there shopping, make sure they are taking their medication, generally just checking they are up, had something hot to eat and reasonably well - sometimes the Home Help Person is the only person they see on a regular basis Occupational Health, A lot of companies are now employing RMNs to work in OH To deal with Mental Health issues in working environments including work related stress Issues. |
