Do some nursing homes really train you to become a certified nurse assistant?

I am looking for a way to help others and be happy. I heard about certified nursing assistants. People work at nursing homes and sometimes acquire their certificate there to help boost the amount of CNAs. Do you know of any links for this? I did an online search for nursing homes but they seem to want experienced people working for them. Any advice?

Yes many nursing homes offer free CNA training provided that you work for them a set period of time. This site offers a listing of schools that offer CNA training www.4cnas.com You can also contact your state registry for a listing of accredited CNA training programs in your area. The contact information for the state registry can also be found on this site. The state registry will tell you if any facilities are having CNA training. This site offers an online message board that may be of some help. They also list financial aide and scholarship information.

Go to some local nursing homes and speak with the personeel department. I see ads in the paper where I live all the time for nusing assistants and our local hospital hires and trains people for the exam. I think you have to agree to work for them a set amount of time. Good luck.

Yes, a lot of nursing homes do this. My mom used to be a CNA instructor at a nursing home. I would just go to some local nursing homes in your area and ask them about it. Many nursing homes have these programs, but they just aren't very widely advertised.

I warn you though, it is a very tough job! You will have to do a lot of gross things such as changing diapers, giving baths, etc. and the old people at nursing homes aren't at all like they are in the movies. In movies, old people are often shown as cute and/or wise, but in reality the people in nursing homes are usually very disoriented and are in a lot of pain. This can make them uncharacteristically mean. Good luck.

Depending on where you live and CNA demand verse availability, can play a big role if a facility will have a Nursing Assistant Certification Class. Here where I live the demand is high for CNA's, so we do a class. Look for your states Nursing Assistant Registry Board. Also you might try starting out as a PCA(Patient Care Attendant) no certification required. Just keep calling homes in your area and see which ones do offer the class and keep checking back with them.
Hope this helped...Good Luck

Hope this helps
