Does 'social care' comprise occupations for which there is professional training, eg counselling, nursing?

as well as social work? My impression is that 'social care' refers to admin and other non-specialist support of older and disabled people, in a) residential homes, and b) on a visitation basis (visiting those requiring the service, in their own homes). Corrections welcome.

I believe that in the UK social care refers to those areas where a degree is not needed (so it would not really be a professsion) http://www.socialworkandcare.co.uk/socia...
