I'm a nurse & 4 months pregnant & will be reassigned at the OR. Is being exposed to anesthesia contraindicated

What are the effects of exposure to anesthesia by pregnant women working in operating rooms and dental clinics?

I have never heard of adverse effects from being around anesthesia. I would walk down to the anesthesiologists office and get informed. Exposure to radiation can be harmful if a C-Arm is used for any cases you are involved with. Everyone (pregnant or not) should be given lead to wear whenever X-ray is used. Radiation is most harmful during the first trimester when cells are at their highest rate of generation. Most OR rooms make lead walls on wheels available also. With the standard precautions taken you should have NOTHING to worry about. Check into the anesthesia thing though, I've never heard that.

You're a nurse-- then ask the doctors where you work?

I think this is something you should ask your OB. I would think as a nurse you would know a little bit more than we as "lay" people. Ask your supervisor or better yet an anesthesiologist. They would be better suited to tell you than us.
