Is this rude or reportable for the workplace?See details? |
I was in the operating room with a 27 year old woman, a young surgeon, and 2 sixty plus old nurses and me, 40. The patient emitted some foul gas and the 29 year old says to the surgeon, OKay, which one of those nurses just s### her Depends? She said it to be funny for the young surgeon but I thought it was in extremely poor taste. Yes, this is a serious question, I WOULD NEVER be so disrespectful. Did this woman say it quietly behind their backs, or out loud in front of the nurses? Either way, it was very juvenile, and I bet she failed to impress the surgeon with her "wit" as she had intended. If she said it out loud in front of them, it was incredibly rude, and makes for a hostile and uncomfortable work atmosphere, and should be reported. She should have asked herself how she would have liked to be the "butt" of such a tasteless joke? (Speaking of which, sorry for the lame pun.) I would think it is reportable. Pretty much anything that offends a person is. You are right, that is beyond unprofessional. Did the older nurses take offence to it or did they also find the humor in it...I personally think its funny. Let the 60+ nurses take action with it, and if ask offer up your opinion. Yes, that person can be brought up for disciplinary action for contributing to a hostile work environment and possibly discrimination. yes it was rude, and why weren't they concentrating on the surgery? (((shudder))) its rude, dont know if its reportable. I supose saying "you smelt it you dealt it" would not go over well. Ok, are you the 29 year old?! You should totally be reported! What are you gonna do? Beat them? Spank them? Tell them that it is offensive and have them tell you where you can go? Pick and choose your battles carefully my dear. Yes, it was in extremely poor taste, and she will pay for her actions. Nurses tend to be not very favourable to doctors who abuse their authority. its not like you have never heard or said anything like that maybe not so it could be heard but he will be old one day that is how i look at it also tell him what if it was said about his mom or dad or sibs? Doctors tend to have a different sense of humor than your average person, with the things that they see every day, some of it being outright horrific, they have to find a way to lighten it up some. I've heard some pretty surly 60 year old nurses. I'm sure they're completely able to stand up for themselves. Sometimes a sense of humour is called for in medical situations. Have you ever watched "House"? Doctors and Policemen are known for having a sick sense of humour because it helps them cope with the stress of their jobs. Yes it was indeed unprofessional you may not know it from my demeanor on here however when I'm working I am very professional. If you cannot be then it is time to move into something else like pathology perhaps I would probably say something to the offending person myself. I'm in the nursing profession and that was way out of line Consider the source and make a mental note for future reference. Reporting disrespect of a patient, though offensive, would probably only cause you grief. You might speak to the offender on a one to one basis, and discuss your concerns. It may not make a difference, but at least they would know how you feel. You never know, they may think twice before doing it again. Reportable and Rude. Also extremely disrespectful of others! I bet they watch MASH a lot. It's funny for Yahoo but inappropriate for the workplace. For all the joker knew, someone in the room may have had a medical problem that necessitates using adult undergarments (and it would not necessarily be one of the 60 year olds). Completely unprofessional. I think it would be up to the doctor to handle. |
