Does this make you second guess if you should be a organ donor?

Dr. Hootan Roozrokh, 34, is accused of ordering excessive doses of drugs to expedite the death of Ruben Navarro, a 25-year-old man who had suffered from a debilitating nerve disease since he was 9, according to the criminal complaint.

On February 3, 2006, Dr. Roozrokh hurried from San Francisco to the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center with a transplant team after receiving word Navarro would be a donor.

In a pretrial hearing last week, Dr. Laura Lubarsky, a critical-care specialist, testified she would not have ordered morphine or the sedative Ativan as Roozrokh allegedly did. She said she was called into the operating room to monitor Navarro after he was taken off life support and to pronounce him dead.

Lubarsky told the court she heard Roozrokh order a nurse to give Navarro more "candy," meaning additional drugs.

this is nothing new. In '89 my dad had a livre transplant in the Pittsburgh Hospital. Money talks. If a organ donar came in in semi bad shape and someone with cash in the 150,000 area was on a waiting list for an organ, how do you honestly think said organ got to patient in need? My dad bragged how his $180,000 BOUGHT a liver from a motorcyclist in a bad accident. My dad even met the guy before he was"killed" for his organs. VERY TRUE STORY. Now as an adult, working in the medical field, I know my dads story was true!

Dr. Roozrokh did act unethically by expediting Navarro's death. But Navarro was already dying. Of course he and the transplant team hurried to the hospital - organ recovery needs to be done in a timely manner. Report It

Additionally, the system obviously works because this is the only known incident of its kind, and the doctor was turned in and is facing severe punishment.

Jethro's lies should not be best answer. Report It

A lot of hearsay without a valid link- no comment.

Problems with every program and good deed; I'll keep my donor card

Nope, not at all.

Wow, one case. That changes everything.

Well, not really.

I'll continue to be a donor. There are more good doctors out there than there are bad. It's a shame people are hyped on lurid news. You don't hear much about what the good guys do unless they are donating oodles of cash for a new building.

No

You act like this stuff doesn't happen every day in every profession. Sh*% happens. It happens to the best and the worst of people.
Someday it could happen to you...or not
