I am on an interviewing committee.?


The new manager of our department asked me 2 b on the interviewing committee. Every 1 in our department is complaining about the one person who has applied for the job, but they will not apply. I like the person who applied, she is not lazy and she has been in management for 25 years. We work in the operating room as a circulating nurse or a scrub nurse. What kind of question shoul I ask her? She has only been working with me for a year, but the ones who have been there for more than 5 years will not apply, but they do not want her to be in charge because she is new and she doesn't know everything. What should I tell my complaining co-workers who won't apply, i mean how can I tell them to get off my back in a nice way?

Tell them that she may not know everything, but that she's taken the initiative to apply for a position where she's going to have to learn it all. (She certainly sounds willing!) Then just simply tell them that if they think they could do a better job, they need to apply...and if they don't want to apply, they need to keep their opinions to themselves. If your manager asked you to be on this interviewing committee, then she trusts your judgement so don't let the others influence your final decision.
