Question about the operating room? |
My girlfriend went two days ago to have a Fibriod tumor reduction for the second time. The first one helped but she needed a second treatment. The first time she was made comfortable during the procedure however a couple days ago on the second trip she suffered terribly during and after the procedure. She swears they weren't giving her the pain medication on demand like the first procedure. The nurse in charge of adminstring the meds and her had a falling out a couple days earlier when the same nurse told my GF that they threw her papers away because they refuse her treatment, which was bogus. After the procedure this same nurse and two others wheeled her on a gurnie to three different floors before getting her to a room while yelling at her to shut up and at one point yelled "oh you can't be on this floor because you were in Shoreline ( a mental clinic where she did councilling for depression years ago) After about an hour she got meds. Do hosiptals film what goes on in the OR? No, hospitals do not film operations, but there should be notes by the anesthesiologist and the nurse of what drugs were administered and when. Medical records will be released to your girlfriend on request (although she might have to pay like $10 or something just to have someone copy and print out all the records) . Medical records and all the notes therein are legal documents, so people are careful about what gets written in them. There may be no documentation of the exchange between your girlfriend and the nursing staff, although there will definitely be documentation about what types of drugs were given, and how frequently. not it the or, it violate HIPPA, unless it a University hospital (like UVA hospital) and then they do, but they do film what's going on in the hallways, and by the sounds of this you could have a pretty nice lawsuit. my step dad as cancer and they wouldn't give him pain medication for the bloodcells building up in his foot (thrombisytosis) and they told him he didn't know what he was talking about, and that he was an ignorant moron, and he had a roomate, and he testifyed on behalf of my dad, and he won his case. |
