10 month old baby with major cavities?

Took my 10 month old daughter to the dentist today because of badly chipped teeth which i had thought were due to the fact that she grinds her teeth so much. The dentist told me her teeth were already starting to rot and the grinding combined with the rotting caused her chipping. On the front of one tooth she has a hole so deep that food will get packed in there. She nurses still and isn't even interested in bottles or sippy cups so she doesn't sleep with them. Does anyone know why her teeth are so weak? Is it an indicator of how her adult teeth will be?
For now I am to brush her teeth with a baby toothbrush several times a day ( Not always with toothpaste) until we can figure something out... meaning the dentist is going to talk to a pediatric dentist to see what can be done and if it can be done without putting her under because she is so young. Does anyone have a clue as to what possibly can be done?
we are in a small area which is why we originally took her to our dentist

I DID have a very stressful pregnancy and gestational diabetes early on. Could that have been a contributing factor? I ate fairly well after the diabetes diagnosis and my blood sugar was USUALLY great. I took a diabetes drug... a pill... called glyburide at night to lower my morning numbers

i think that your diabetes might be a factor..

do you feed her with sweets? or do you still breastfeed her? i suggest that you should train her not to eat sugary stuff because it easily rots the teeth.. try asking the doctors if your being a diabetic person affects the milk that you secrete..

also make her drink lots of milk (without sugar) so she will have more calcium to build strong teeth..

yeah i also read about fluoride in helping to strengthen the teeth.. try asking about it at your doctor..

i hope i helped you a lot with your prob! =]

check with your water company is there enough or any flouride in your water? ask the dentist about flouride treatments .

it can be caused because of the diet you had when pregnant,

To me its something inherit from the family. My husband and my stepson got it , the teeth don't have fluoride that protect the teeth.

I have 16 month old twins. I brush there teeth once a day with a finger toothbrush thingy. i check everyday for signs of discoloration or cavities and none yet. Thank god :)
