Define "Magical Thinking"?

This question is related to nursing field especially "pediatric".

(m)

In psychology and cognitive science, magical thinking is non-scientific causal reasoning (e.g. superstition). James George Frazer and Bronislaw K. Malinowski said that magic is more like science than religion, and that societies with magical beliefs often had separate religious beliefs and practices. Like science, magic is concerned with causal relations, but unlike science, it does not distinguish correlation from causation. For example, someone may believe a shirt is lucky if he had won a bowling competition in it. He will continue to wear the shirt to bowling competitions, and though he continues to win some and lose some, he will chalk up every win to his lucky shirt.

Basically it means If I wish for something hard enough then it will come true phsyc. 101

Magical thinking is a phase of cognitive development that children go through. It's that phase when kids will give magical causes for events, because they can't grasp cause and effect yet. So if you ask a kid what makes rain fall, they'll say God the man in the moon or the birds or the sky, but if you ask an older kid, they'll tell you about the water cycle. Hope that helps.
