Strawberry tongue?

if a child has a "strawberry tongue", it is usually indicative of scarlet fever. The tongue will look very red and swollen and the taste buds will be raised. I am wondering if anyone has ever experienced this also with strep throat in a child? My son had the strawberry tongue but no symptoms of scarlet fever...unless they are going to develop within the next few days. I have not done a strep test yet, due to the fact I just noticed the tongue today. I'm a pediatric nurse practitioner, so I can just do the test at the office. But I am wondering if anyone has ever noticed this in their own kids.

i don't have any kids, but i'm fourteen and i've noticed it in myself.
i've just had a very red tounge with raised taste buds most of my life, and it doesn't bother me, but it doesn't go away either.
anyways, i am very sick, but the doctors have no idea whats wrong with me. but no one has said it's related to my tounge. it's hardly noticable.
my mom is a nurse too. she really doesn't seem to think it's a problem. i just recomend giving your son a strep test, and if it's negative and the symptoms increase take him to a mouth and throat doctor.
i'm sure you'll be abl to use your valuble common sense as a nurse to help your son.
good luck (:
