Police department or nurse?

okay so i really want to be a pediatric nurse. but lately ive been really interested in watching the first 48 and watching the detectives and police do their jobs. i am very good at finding info about ppl online im a very pbservent person and my family thinks i should do something like a detective. is there a job that you can work with the police like behind the scences work at a police department and jus like work with finding out stuff and researching for them but not really going out in the field. i know theres secretary jobs, but how much do they make? i dont know what to do

If you join a police department, you may be in patrol for several years before you have the opportunity to be a detective.

Larger District Attorney's offices have their own people assigned to follow up on the cases referred to their office, that could be a possibility also.

You would probably make more as a nurse.

The FBI has annalists who do the exact job you are describing. www.fbi.gov You could research it and talk to a recruiter.

My advice to you would be to go to college....major in Nursing.....and minor in Criminal Justice. You could try being a dispatcher or some other occupation within the criminal justice field. If you find out that criminal justice isn't for you, you will always have nursing to fall back on. Good luck and follow your heart!

My advice to you would be to go to nursing school. There's a nationwide shortage of nurses and you'd be writing your own ticket to a great career.

unless you have a ton of schooling pertaining to investigative services, you will have to be a patrol officer for several years before you are able to become a detective. im not even so sure if you can jump straight to dect...even w/ a ton of schooling.

The posters were right when they said you would need at least a few years of patrol service in order to become a detective. That usually holds true with the FBI too.

I was in nursing school for a while, and it just wasn't for me.

If you don't want to actually go out in the field or on patrol, you could become a background investigator for the police department. Here, after the initial processing of new applicants, their packet is turned over to an investigator who follows up on all the information and does checks on the person.

Good luck with whatever you decide!!!
