What is the first step I need to take to become a pediatric nurse?

I have my GED , and I want to know where to go from here.

You might want to talk to a counselor at your local adult school. Also, you should contact the personnel office of your local hospital to find out the types of nurses they need in the pediatric department. There are a number of levels of nursing: CNA, LVN, RN. The type of licensing/certification you get depends upon how long you want to stay in school. I would do a lot of research on pediatric nursing and the job market in your area.

Your first step would be to obtain a nursing license either LPN or RN then take specialized courses in pediatrics. Some people obtain their LPN license first so they will have a steady income while obtaining a RN license.

college degree in nursing

Congrats! That's great field to get into and there is a huge shortage right now so the salary is going to be very good wherever you go.

You need an RN, or a Registered Nursing license. It depends on the state, but in AZ it's an Associates degree or two year program. I'm currently going to Grand Canyon University, not sure where you're located and they have a HUGE nursing program. I recommend them if you're looking to move as well. Good luck!
