Choosing between Obstetric Nursing or Pediatric Nursing HELP? |
Choosing between Obstetric Nursing or Pediatric Nursing HELP? I think either would be great. Either way you are going to have lots of adults to deal with, too. And sometimes it's way worse dealing w/ the parents than a sick child... or a newborn. When I was in labor there was this lady down the hall screaming "Oh my God there's so much blood! Get it out of me! Get it out of me!" I just laughed and I was so glad I had delivered before her or I would have been scared. Just sharing that story because I am sure it is nothing compared to what you will hear! I think Pediatric Nursing would be hard for me, personally, because I would take a lot of the work day home w/ me and really worry about some of the kids. I'm a worrier and it would play on me a lot. I guess it depends on the type of person you are. But both professions would have a lot of rewards I am sure. I took nursing school for 2 years before I quit. Decided it wasn't for me. FYI I am female on my hubby's name. :) Have fun deciding. And enjoy whatever you choose! Obstetric Nursing is better to my mind, less suffering. Wow both are great choices but Ped's is the number one speciality to go into. More opportunities ..more demand I think in both of those fields you get to help the parent(s) and the babies so both would be good in that respect. Obstetrics is if you are interested in female reproduction, not necessarily babies, and may include procedures like abortion. If you want to be around babies, then it's pediatrics. Which do you like? It's your life and your choice. No one should make this decision for you. Be a PEDS nurse. much more fun than most nursing. |
