This Question Is For Moms Who Have Given Birth Vaginally???

First off i want to say thank you to all of you for being so patient with me and all my strange questions.
Here is yet another strange question and please don't laugh. Ok so i have 3 kids with one on the way and they have all been born via c-section for medical reasons. I'm curious though for those who have given birth vaginally did you ever fear doctors and nurses looking at your genitals? I have always felt uncomfortable with my OB looking at me down there, i was though geez i can imagine the pillow talk he has with his wife at night, ya know. I can just hear him now, 'oh i saw this womans crotch today and man the flab on it....' you get my point. But do you ever get uncomfortable by it, like i'm used to my husband seeing my privates but a doctor is still like a stranger to me and it feels invasive to let someone look at me down there.
your thoughts?

i'm comfortable in my own skin i just feel shy about my body when its exposed to so many other people.

LOL yeah...it's always strange...but when I was giving birth to my daughter, I honestly didn't care in the least. All I wanted was to push that big ol' baby out ASAP! The only thing that really bothered me was when they brought 'students' in to 'learn.' At one point, I told my husband that felt like I was getting gang-banged! LMAO! Because I swear there was a different person checking my cervix every hour...and then they would stand back and let the next student "have his way with me." It was nuts. But...the bottom line is....I didn't care once all that was over. I still don't care anymore. I'm even inviting my MOTHER IN LAW to be in the room when my next one is born.

Lady, i work in an ob-gyn office and i see cooch all day.

We don't talk about it at home. Not only is it unethical, but it's kinda gross and nobody wants to hear it.

That too - to the lady who answered below me - we don't want to remember your cooch particularly! we aren't exactly looking for beauty shots or anything. I mostly remember what is on the ultrasound screen, if we saw a heartbeat or what the sex is, not what your genitalia looks like.

I never really felt weird about it. I mean, he/she sees that every day, and unless you're particularly unique...they won't remember you from the next 10 women who walk in there...not to mention that by the time you're 9 months pregnant, you've pretty much lost all the shame you might have had. At least in my case.

Ok, I've given birth vaginally three times and my father is a doctor. First, I can assure you the doctor is not talking about his patient's privates - just doesn't happen. Second, my OB was very respectful and I never felt uncomfortable. He's just doing his job!

At least in my experience of 48 hours of labor (and like you ended with a csection) but had plenty of poking and prodding and probably 15+ doctors/nurses saw my vagina. It really doesn't cross your mind when you're in pain, or just more involved in the whole experience to worry about them seeing you naked.

Them looking at it was the last thing on my mind. the tearing was def. the worst part of a vaginal birth.

just think about it they see different ones all day everyday it is nothing different to them...... i dont have a problem with my doctor seeing mine but im still not confident enough to run out into public naked lol...... when i had my baby last week and my boyfriend's mom and my mom and him was there now that was kinda akward lol

you aren't the only woman out there with a vagina. doctor's see them all the time, they'll think nothing of it. Take a deep breath and don't worry so much.

I never really feel comfortable in the stirrups, but I can tell you that while giving birth, I didn't care AT ALL who saw my business. I was in labor for three painful days and what those people thought of my vagina was the last thing on my mind. Besides, they see it all the time and I'd imagine most people are pretty unremarkable.

Having giving birth six times vaginally I have to say when you get to the point of the baby coming if the janitor was there with a mit you really would care. lol I dont think they do either I think they just want everything to happen safe so they dont have any scary complications on there hands

Don't worry, they look at coochies all day, i'm sure nothing shocks them anymore no matter how weird it looks.

When I first started going to a gynecologist I was very uneasy about it, but since then I've had ovarian cysts, endometriosis, and a baby! A pelvic exam doesn't phase me. Giving birth is the last time when any woman has time to be self conscious about such things anyway! You are working really hard when you have a baby, and if anyone has anything derogatory to think, it's their problem! Laboring mothers have much more on their minds at that point :)

I delivered both kids vaginally but never felt "uncomfortable" about my OB seeing so much down there. If I remember correctly, don't you see your OB every week during the last trimester anyways?

Just relax and don't worry about doctors/nurses checking you out down there. They have more important things to worry about than what your package looks like...you know...delivering your child :)

I know what you mean, but to me I know they are a professional (hopefully) and aren't going to gossip about what they saw. As far as labor goes, you are in so much pain you dont really give a CRAP (for lack of a better word) what you look like!!

LMAO, I'm sorry. I know you say don't laugh. But it is actually kind of funny. I too feel very uncomfortable going to the OB. But through the process all I think about is...."This is for my health...i rather do this and find out I'm healthy, then to NOT do this, and find out something is wrong". With my daughter through the birth (which was a vaginal birth), i was a bit uncomfortable, especially since they just kinda started and my g-ma, mom & sister were all in the room just watching! It was VERY uncomfy for me. But then again, with the pain, and then plopping a slimy new baby on my stomach I completely forgot about it :) I just found out yesterday i am pregnant again, and for the first time in my life i'm LOOKING FORWARD to actually getting to the doctors! LOL. I can't wait to hear my babys heartbeat and see it for the first time :) Good luck to you! & Congrats on the new baby!

No, I didn't liked to be checked just because it kinda hurt when the doc keeps probing every so often during dilation...but it was not vanity. I just wanted to be left alone and I kept watching the contraction monitor go up and ooooohhhhhhhhh. Thank God, it all went fairly easy. Labor was 4 hours. I believe the delivery was "easy" because I walked everywhere when preg. for exercise. I only had one "large" ( I joke, because he turned out to be 6'5"! ) child and no more.

Nope, it is all professional and I felt as comfortable as I could. Most women have only one focus and that is meeting that baby!

The doctor has done MANY vaginal births. Your "stuff" is not the first "stuff" he has seen. Plus, when you are in labor, you could care less who's looking, you just want that baby out of you. Just relax and remember, he's seen many before and will see many after yours.

i never gave it much thought. they look at you medically not sexually.

Have had three vaginal births and to be honest, I was in so much pain and so focused on what was happening within my body that I honestly did not care.
Halfway through every labour I'd become unbearably hot and strip off naked and I'm normally a very modest woman.
Even with my second labour, I was naked on the bed with my tush sticking up in the air for all to see, but I didn't care. The midwife did though and covered my modesty with a sheet as there were many doctors and paediatricians wandering around the birth room.

yeah it is kind of weird because the only person who sees you is your hubby. but than, during labor, you would be in too much pain to even think about any of that. you just want this baby out as fast as you can get it out.

lol you question is funny and yes it's probably the hormones that are making come up with these questions. Anyways I doubt that the nurses and doctors go home and talk about your ********. They all basically look the same and I do not think that they care what it looks like. I have had 2 kids vaginally and I could have cared less who was in the room at the time. Hell there were cameras and recorders and everything in there, I am a nudist and I am VERY comfortable with myself so the fact that a few extra people were there to see what was going on did not really bother me. I was more irritated with the nurse not letting me eat than I was with some stranger looking at my stuff.
The doctor still has to check to make sure that everything is okay even if you are having a c-section, make sure you're not dilating, the mucus plug is still in etc.
