Uncomfortable with video of babies first bath?

when my baby was born my husbands parents were visiting me in the hospitol and the nurse was about to take my baby down for her first bath. since i had just had a C-section i could not go but the nurse asked if the grandparents if they wanted to go and watch so my husband his brother and parents all went down and they video taped the whole thing. during the video they say things like HAHAHA shes peeing and at one point the nurse says get a butt shot when she was on her knees and there was poop there. i feel it was a little too much for them to tape it. also the agle that they were at seemed to focus on her privates the whole time. so anyway they gave me a COPY of it and kept a copy for themselves. i know she is just a new born but just feel its a little MUCH for them to have a COPY. i made my husband go when they werent home and take the video. they arent bad people i just feel its inappropraite!!! what do u think?

i think that it is YOUR baby and you are on this earth to protect her. You did the right thing now don't look back. You never know if someone who is it kiddy porn (maybe not even a family member) could be there and see the video. I say GET RID OF IT. You should protect your child's modesty when they are a day old the same way you do when she is 12, 14, 16 or 18. There are perverts out there and you should do your best to keep YOUR daughter out of their minds. Not trying to be over dramatic but I deal with some child sexual abuse and I applaud you for watching out for your child.

You're the parent, and if you're uncomfortable with the video you are guaranteed she's going to be uncomfortable when they want to show it off when she's older. I think you did the right thing getting it back, although I think you should have just asked for it (or had your hubby ask for it).

well i think its natural for u as a parent to be concern about the video.if it were to happen again i would be concern. i guess i can't say much because i didn't c the video. but if u feel it was inappropriate then i think u should say something.it is ur child and u should protect him/her.
y did they keep a copy?? its not their child!

It is inappropriate and the nurse seems a little unprofessional. And even though you should have asked before having him take it back, chances are, they, wouldn't have seen you point of view and wouldn't have given it to you.

I would not even allow my mom to keep the camera on when i changed my daghter the first day home you never know what kinda weird people can get ahold of those videos now days and its your child and you have the right to protect her. YOU WERE RIGHT!

I would probably feel the same way - I just had my daughter by C-section too this Jan - and missed out on her first bath also- If it were me I would have wanted her video of her first bath to be something precious -which is probably more the reason why you are upset -because they turned it into something comical and embarrasing- they stepped over the line with taping her butt and privates intentionally zooming in on them- its ok tape her bathing naked but just not in the manner which they did -they should not have focused in on her privates its best to have them blocked by her legs -in photos or on video - a cute butt shot is ok -just not at an offensive angle or especially when there is poop!!- i feel so bad for you- I would so be upset about that-Any way If I were you i would not distroy the tape because I would still want to salvage the good scenes (hopefully there were some) so I would take it to be edited and have the things you dont want on there taken out -after that -then you can give them their copy back - if they ask you why you edited it- you can tell them you did it for your daughter's dignity -when she gets older you didn't want her to see her first bath as something to be embarrased or ashamed of but as something precious as it should have been - be sure to let them know your not mad at them but at the nurses for encouraging the offensive content of the video which you feel was not in the best taste for your baby-

A mothers instinct is a powerful thing and i think it is pretty harsh to laugh at a little baby like that and video tape it pooing. Even babies deserve some decency. Its your little bundle of joy and i think your in laws had no right to make a copy without talking to you about it first. You did the right thing. Be proud.

I say this with the utmost respect to you, not to be rude. I think you're a little oversensitive on this, but THAT'S OK. It's your first baby, you're instinct to protect her is in full force. I don't feel it is inappropriate, simply because it's their grandbaby, their son's daughter. It's a miracle to them, and they are extremely proud of her. I know focusing on the private parts seems a little weird, but that's what makes her a girl, a granddaughter, and they're proud of that,too, as silly as that sounds. Anything that little angel does, even the nastiest things,are going to be simply the cutest thing in the whole world! When you're beautiful baby has turned into a beautiful woman and is married, that video will be so precious to you, because it's a memory. Your in-laws already know this. They know it won't last for long, so they are going to want any video, no matter how mundane, to keep. My oldest is only three, and this has already sunk in for me! Please don't worry, and don't be offended, just be glad your baby has silly grandparents that love her that much to film her first poopoo! My boys don't have grandparents, both sets died before either was even thought of, so don't take it for granted.
