HIPPA and what is considered confidenual?

HIPPA and what is considered confidentiality

My question is what is covered under confidentiality with HIPPA? The other day while at at Doctors office in a private examining room. I was talking to nurse who was taking my blood and vitals. We were chatting about the new corporation taking over the medical clinic I was at. I mentioned that I heard there dress codes was not up to pare with the new company, and there book keeping and records were outdated and new system was needed. With in 24 hours the new corporation about 150 miles north put an employee on probation with possible firing for leaking out information.

Would this discussion be considered confidential between me and this nurse? So by this nurse discussing what we said be considered violation of my confidentiality, while being examined by this nurse? And if so then in violation of the HIPPA rules?

No. HIPPA relates specifically to a company's handling or disclosure of personal medical information (i.e., what diseases a person has).

Unless the nurse carelessly disclosed your personal medical information to a person who had no business knowing it (such as her boyfriend), there is no violation of HIPPA privacy rules.

first "their" is the word you are looking for

second HIPPA covers your nedical info, not your random chatting

HIPPA applies to medical information, not a conversation about the company. But you don't know for sure that it was due to your conversation do you?

HIPPA is just medical info.
