Overtime laws in Florida? |
Does anyone know about the overtime laws in florida. I work in a private nursing home in jacksonville and the employer does not pay overtime. I don't work anything over 40 hrs a week because of it. Does anyone know if it is legal in the state of florida or does the employer have choice because in the state of Illinois, it is mandatory. Since your employer is in interstate commerce (trust me, he is) this would be controlled by the Federal Wage and Hour Act. Unless you are an exempt employee (manager, etc.) you must receive overtime pay. If you work overtime, they must pay in in the state of FL, look it up on florida's department of labor site. I lived in Florida and worked there for 6 years and the policy I believe is Federal.full time after 40 hrs is time and a half unless you are a piece worker/ Look at my Florida.gov web site |
