Would You put your mother or father in a nursing home if they couldn't take care of them selves. ? |
In the Country I'm from ( Italy ) We take care of our own as our parents took care of us as children, why do Americans neglect to care for their own parents in this country ? We only have our parents on earth for so long and those that leave their parents in the nursing home seem to think they are already gone and have nothing to do with them after that. I would NEVER put my folks in a home if they couldn't take care of themselves. I would take them in. They raised me to love my family no matter what. yea cuz the children have to make their own living and take care of themselves and their children so they don't time to take care of their elderly parents. Never. Thou shall honor thy mother and thy father. we would have to have someone take care of them when we go to work..got to pay the bills too only if they wanted to go if u cant take care of them yes it would be the best thing to do I won't do that, here in the Philippines we don't really put our parents in a nursing home. There are some though... the ones that neglect their own parents. I would take care of them, when I go to work I could hire someone to look after them. No way. I've seen how people are treated in some of those nursing homes and I could never put my parents in there. If they were of sound mind and body I would ask them what they would want to do. They raised me. I have love and respect for them. I would do what they wish. It does look pretty unfeeling that so many elders are put away into homes, particularly when the quality of care in those places is often questionable. I took care of my Mom for the last 3 years she lived. I had to quit my job; fortunately her retirement annuity was just enough for both of us to live on. It was not easy. But for many people, I think the responsibility and the confinement of caring for an older relative is just more than they think they can handle. Its a shame we have lost this custom of caring for our own. Americans who have a generous income, for the most part, really are kinda spoiled. I don't think that most Americans dispose of their parents. I think that most people are uncapable of seeing their once vibrant parents slowly dying right before them. Now it would be nice if we all could afford the time and money to fully care for our ailing parents but sometimes that is not feasible. A lot of this not only has to do with the people themselves but private corporations and the federal government are also to blame. Our goverment barely helps out the elderly as it is. Social security is a joke and will pay next to nothing to help out although these same people have paid into this fund for years. Private corps. just will not allow the families of these people the proper time off of work to care for their parents. Too much time off will get somebody fired and then will where they all be? When my father reaches that age I hope I would be able to care for him but I barely earn enough now to care for myself. So it's not a lack of love thing, it's a lack of money and time thing. NEVER..they took care of me when I did not know how to walk or to talk soo y would I do that 4? I would take care of them if its the last thing I ever do. There comes a time, when you have no choice of course not i try not to be judgemental about things i dont understand and try to understand them. I would try my best to take care of them; but if it is impossible to do so in all way, in the end I would take them to the nursing home because of their happy and secured life. I would meet everyday with them and take care of their each and every kind of problems and needs or anything else. Never. My parents have told me that going 2 a nursing home is their worst fear. I have seen how people are treated there and some of those nurses sometimes don't really treat the people very well. never they took care of me why not take care if them No never.. I will take care of them as they took care of us when we were younger. Its the only way to repay them for the hardships they have to face just for us to have a better future. In America when we have parents that have diesases such as Alzheimers and they become people we don't even know as they progress into the illness. We know it is better to have someone to care for them 24 hours a day that are trained and know how to handle their angry and combative ways. This is loving them better than if we tried to care for them ourselves and suffered broken bones and fear of them. Also when they have a stroke or something that makes them unable to care for themselves and there is only so many hours in a day and so many hands on a body to do all the things needed for home and family there is not much left to tend to the needs of a helpless parent. If I had the means and ability, to do it myself I would not put my parents in one. I always promised them I would never do that to them. I would take care of them myself or hire someone I knew VERY well to do it if I couldn't. |
