Why aren't nurses ever appreciated, we work weekends, holidays, 24 hrs we should rec' the most stress award. |
After working for 16 hours one day I over heard a family member of a resident saying the nurses were lazy because they did not answer her mother call light as soon as she pushed it. Within 16hrs her assigned nurse had went in that room at least 12 times spending long periods of time. This nurse was assigned 14 other residents, all of whom had to be seen in between going in to this one residents room. Was that fair to the other residents, hell no! But the residents daughter could care less about other people mothers and fathers, she wanted this nurse to be her mothers private nurse. I pulled this family member to my office and said that it was o.k. for her mother to be taken home that day because she had met her goals and I could get a discharge order from her MD. The daughter stated " that is impossible, I can't provide her the care she need at home." I said sure you can, just go ask her what she need every 5mins and take her to the bathroom every 15min.& be there as soon as she call. i agree with you wholeheartedly Honey, I work in health care as well. You cannot please everyone. Try to blame some of this womens attitude on the stress she is probably under due to her ill mother. And lack of knowledge of the medical field. You nurses get a lot more credit than we x-ray techs! My family still thought I was going to school to be a nurse even at graduation, and they still get my actual title wrong. Just turn the other cheek at those people. And instead of cursing them, you have to bless them, and pray that someday they realize how important your job is to them. :-) Nurses work their butts off and get little appreciation. I blame it on the for-profit system! Thank you for being a good nurse and start pressuring the companies you work for to listen to your needs. Eight hours a day is enough for anyway, people have families. If they could legally work you 24/7 they would. You all need to stand up for yourselves. Nurses & doctors are doing precious work of taking care of the lives of the sick people. The relatives of the sick are so much concerned about their loved ones that they demand total attention to their sick ones. This personal touch blinds them from realising the hard work put on by nurses like you and they abuse you from all quarters and reasons. Another thing is the management of the hospital also applying cost cutting tactics employ only a limited number of nurses which adds to the above said problem . So take it easy this is how a nurse's life would be and do not lose heart but simply do your duty as faithfully as possible. Best of luck. I had a bad accident and was seriously hurt. I fell of a building to frozen ground crushing both heels and messed up my ankles, knees, hips and lower back. I have allot of respect for you and anyone in nursing. For the first twenty four hrs. there was some one there all the time. I spent a total of 8 days in shock trauma at the university of Maryland in Balto. and the nursing staff great and small never let me down.so for all the little kindnesses and the time you've given I THANK YOU for your gift. that baught a tear to my eye for real Dear...I agree that a word of appreciation does a ton of good. But you are doing a noble work. You are doing it because of the commitment you have, and you are doing it well. If you are a believer of God, He will appreciate your work all the time. i just gotta say you guys and gals in the hospitals do a kickass job!!!i work in a sushi store, and if a nurse, ambo driver or the like buy something, thay ALWAYS get a discount or free stuff,i know its not much but some do appreciate it.....you people do a sweet as job!!!take a big ol bow and give a big ol up yours to anyone that speaks down too you... My Mother nearly died in 1992 due to pseudomonus (? spelling), and e-coli from a ruptured hernia, necrotic bowel, and perforated bowel, and believe me, I thank God every day for the ANGELS OF MERCY aslo known as NURSES!!! Thank you for your dedication to your field, and although there are some assholes out ther who think a hang nail requires private duty nursing for either themselves or a family member, I respect ALL nurses, doctors, med. techs., etc. for ALL they do for all of us, at the expense of their feet, backs, and most especially their own families. THANK YOU!!!! i fully agree wid u as they should be awarded as they r only one who is presrent in the hospital when the fu**in doctor are not available in the hospital.... I am a hospital pharmacist and I think every one of you deserves the Nobel prize for self-sacrifice. I dunno how you do it. Hats off to all of you overworked and underpaid saints. God help us all if you every say **** it and leave!! |
