Any opinions on private nursing homes in Humble, TX?

my mother just had an acute stroke and is paralayzied on her right side...forever

I know of 2 nursing homes in Humble: Park Manor on McKay (near Northeast Hospital) and the one that was called Rennisance across from the Convention Center (the name has changed recently).

A suggestion to find the best fit for your mother is to visit the homes a different intervals unannounced (on the weekends, late evenings and mid-day). Meet with the Administrator and see if it's possible to speak with some of the residents there to get an opinion.

Another thing to check is the JACHO surveys. JACHO (joint accreditation commission on hospital organization) surveys hospitals, nursing homes and home health companies to determine that they operate within the parameters set by the Commission and that there isn't gross negligence happening in these facilities. Each residence should have a plaque in a prominent location that shows that they are JACHO accredited and when the last survey was conducted.

You can also check with medicare and the BBB to find out if any complaints have been lodged against the facility.

This is a hard decision that you are making. I wish you and your family all the best in choosing an appropriate facility to help your mom.
