What is the job description of a RNC?

Furthermore, what is the main difference of a RN, and a RNC? Is it simply certification; as I鈥檝e read somewhere, 鈥渁 feather in a nurses cap鈥? Or is there some practicing difference between the two?

I am somewhat positive that RN鈥檚 may not diagnose illnesses, is this true, and can a RNC diagnose?

Thoughts and opinions would be appreciated. Facts, even better.

Thanks.

I'm guessing RNC means a registered nurse certified in a specific type of nursing such as OB, med-surg, or critical care. RN's are not technically able to diagnose. A nurse practitioner can prescribe medications and diagnose only if they are working with an MD such as in a doctor's office.

Why Become Certified?

A study conducted by the Nursing Credentialing Research Coalition found that certification has a dramatic impact on the personal, professional and practice outcomes of certified nurses. Overall, nurses in the study stated that certification enabled them to experience fewer adverse events and errors in patient care than before they were certified. Additional results revealed that certified nurses:
鈥?expressed more confidence in detecting early signs of complications;
鈥?reported more personal growth and job satisfaction;
鈥?believed they were viewed as credible providers;
鈥?received high patient satisfaction ratings;
鈥?reported more effective communication and collaboration with other health care providers; and
鈥?experienced fewer disciplinary events and work-related injuries.
