Respiratory therapist or radiology tech?

which career is better? Which would u choose btwn these 2 and nursing? I hear most nurses hate their job.

At one point in time, I was the director of three hospital departments: laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and cardiopulmonary.

Of the three, nurses make the most money and have the most flexibility in the types of jobs they can do and where they can work. Rank and file rad techs and resp. techs make lower wages than those who specialize and get additional training/schooling.

All health care jobs are pretty stressful these days because there is so much emphasis on production. That means producing the most amount of work with the least amount of paid man hours. However, the pay is decent to good and there's no shortage of available jobs in any part of the country.

I think you have to decide for yourself if you can handle a physical job, exposure to blood and body products (urine, feces, sputum, etc.), stress levels, etc. Working in health care can be very rewarding because you can see each day that you are helping people and saving lives. If you're interested in working in management someday, then you'll need to pursue at least a BS degree and perhaps a master's degree.

Become a nurse and then shoot for the top job - there is always room at the top. Report It

I would pick Xray Tech....but Respiratory pays more $$

If you like working with phlegm, go respiratory.

If you like dealing with the aftermath of barium enemas gone wrong, go rad tech.

Me? I'm happy to just do ultrasounds, and leave the really gross stuff to others.

Respiratory Therapist, just because they are more in demand presently.

Radiology tech would be the 1st choice personally..I had a friend who was a resp. tech and even though she made a pretty decent wage, the stories she would tell......It's up to you how much crap you would put up with (literally). What's your motivation for the job? coinage or helping folks?

Radiology is good if you do not like a lot of hands on with your patients, because a therapist will be a lot of hands on .. those who are nurses and hate their jobs need to get out of it. But someone hating what they do vs. where they work is a big difference ...

Good LUck!
