Nusing or radiology technician? |
I can't decide which I want to do, both seem interesting the only thing that worries me about radiology technician is is there much room for advancement? and with nursing it's can i deal with the blood and vomit and infections and god knows what else? You have to really think long and hard about what you really want to do. Nursing is a challege because yes, they will demand a lot out of you, and you will be working a lot more than you think. Usually there's 3-4 workdays, and you work 12 hour shifts. But a lot of times they'll be over demanding and ask more time out of you and so-forth. I would consider looking at all of the different fields and areas that nursing encompasses. There's lots of areas in which you don't have to deal with virus infections and vomitting, like a Oncology Nurse. Also, if you are considering being a radio technician, you should also consider possibly being an Anesthiesiological Nurse. These nurses can make triple digit salaries, and are highly needed. Plus, you wouldn't be dealing with so much blood and guts, just a lot of knowledge on chemicals and such. But, you also need to take into consideration the liabilities that you may have as a nurse as well. Sometimes you could get into a situation where you could be claimed as doing something of malpractice, and I don't know if you want that added stress. personally, i would go with radiology tech. I have a friend that's a radiology technician and loves it. She also says that she makes a pretty good salary for just starting out in the work place. As far as career advancement ... I haven't the slightest. I am a nurse. I never wanted to do anything else. BUT a radiology tech is a less physically demanding job. It is also less emotionally trying too. So what do you want from a job. Radiological technicians are those healthcare professionals who, primarily, take X-rays and administer nonradioactive materials to patients for diagnostic purposes and earn between $32,370 and $46,510per year .Meanwhile a nurse some hospitals offer experienced nurses up to $14,000 as signing bonuses alone apart from their salaries. In my opinion chosing a carrer depends upon the job market. Which is most needed in my country but not available. Both r good choices and would permit u to move. I think nusring is a general profession, meaning it touches a bit of everywhere. This profession is needed in third world countries especially those within the caribbean and u can open clinics in those countries..just an idea so it's up to u. Radiology tech is a very good spot. I have known quite a few. The field is expanding to new machines, beyond just X-ray. Now, those techs operate MRI, CTscan, PET scan, angiography, etc. And there are new ones to be invented (someday soon the X ray laser...). Nursing is a good field, and the nurses are in high demand. I think Radiology Tech requires more scientific study, and an aptitude running machines and computers. (the computers are used to view digital images) Many people don't like the technical side, which means there are fewer radiation techs and the pay is better. Decide if you like the technology. If you do, then, I think, Radiation Tech is the better deal Go for nursing... after school so many opportuities, you will get used to the blood and vomit. I practiced nursing 15 years before I had my children and it is amazing what nurses can discuss at lunch. Lots of room for advancement in Radiology. You can cross train to other modalities, like C.T. and M.R.I. , Interventional Radiology, Cath Lab. These all make more $$ than general Rad Technologists. You can work your way up to management and become the Director of the department. 1 more Yr of schooling for Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapist. Rad Techs are in demand all most as much as nurses. Starting pay for graduating Tech in Bay Area of CA is $33. Plus there are travel opportunities like nurses. You still do patient care but way more limited than nurses. No bed pans or butt-wiping. Athough you should research Barium Enemas. |
