What do you think is the best field? nursing, radiology tech or Health Care Administration?

What are starting salaries and pros and cons for each field?

The three occupations have completely different focuses. You need to look for an occupation which interest you. As long as you can make an acceptable salary and get a job, you will be much happier in life if you like the basic field you are in. Remember, If you start working at 22 y/o and retire at the probable retirement age for the future of 70 y/o you will be in the occupational field for 48 years. Career fields are not like short term jobs, when you devote the time and money for the education, it is much more difficult to change occupations if you are not content.

Nursing has many opportunities, as nurses (I'm speaking of RNs) are used throughout health care and many other areas of industry. Dependent on the level of education and specialization and location, nurses working as RNs in hospitals average over $60,000 a year in the US, and some of the advanced practice nurses and nursing executives have salaries over $300,000 a year. The range of opportunities is not available in the other 2 occupations you mentioned. This is usually a combination of clinical and patient management. This career field would appeal to you if you like working will patients but also enjoy some paperwork management and organization and analysis. Admission to these programs can be very competitive.

Radiology Technologist have a good staring salary, and many specialize, and some exceed the national average salary. The average US salary is around $42,000 a year, but some make over $80,000, and even more with certain advanced education and specializations. The number of opportunities is more limited. But there is in most areas of the country a reasonable job market for this occupation. These positions usually require patient movement and some lifting, there is some mess, but is primarily a clean occupation. The education is usually through community or technical schools, and the competition for admission is slightly less than for a university nursing program.

Health Care Administration - There are positions available for graduates of a bachelor degree program, though to be successful in this field most people have a Masters in Health Care or Hospital Administration sometimes also a Master of Business Administration in a dual degree program. There is significant potential for income in the right position, and can make several hundred thousand with the right education. The average salary in the US is around $92,000. The salary range in an average city would be around $63,000 to $174,000 a year. There is minimal patient contact except from a business standpoint. This is mostly a business degree with a health care focus. Once accepted to a college there is no problem with acceptance into the undergraduate program, acceptance to graduate programs is based on undergraduate grades and GRE scores.

Good Luck with your career.
