Can Midwives get a Green Card in the USA? |
Or is it just for General Nurses i seen a website that said only General Nurses and other websites that just want Registered Nurses and dont mention either way Licensing for midwives vary from state to state - some states even forbid non-nurse midwives from practicing. No...you cant get it...only registered nurses...and its not that easy for them this days...its being complicated each and everytime You would have to certify as an RN with additional certifications in midwivery in the United States to get a license to practice in most US states. Even CPMs have to get their NARM qualifications. Note that direct-entry midwivery is illegal in some US states so you could only practice in a select few states without also qualifying as an RN. You would definitely not get a "green card" by having qualifications which are no good in the US. In order to qualify for a green card, you have to have lived in the United States continually (legally) for a period of at least 5 years. The problem with issuing a green card (as opposed to a non-resident visa) to a nurse is that employment-based applications require that there is no minimally qualified US citizen or permanent resident who can do the job the alien applicant can do. It is pretty much impossible for a hospital to claim that there are no registered RNs who are US citizens or green card holders, isn't it? |
