How do men fare as registered nurses?

is this nursing still considered a womans job?

is this nursing equally promotable for each gender?

Men are in high demand as registered nurses. Some nursing duties are just done better by men. For example, a person having prostate surgery, or a colostomy, may be embarrassed to have first contact by a woman nurse for all aspects of care of such intimate matters. Also, male R. N.'s may be desired when heavy patients have to be lifted, provided the male nurse is strong. Also, a male R N may have special leadership skills to contribute to the nursing team. Their chances of promotion are excellent, more than for women, partly because many women nurses do not have a lifetime career, where men are more likely to make it a lifetime career.

Many male R. N.'s that I have known have background as medics in the armed forces, and may want to serve in Veteran's hospitals because their special experience with servicemen gives them a sense of mission to help veterans and an understanding of old service related injuries. A good male nurse will never want for his choice of jobs and will be paid well.

Another opportunity for male R. N.'s is to specialize and to become physician's assistants or other kinds of specialists. If you are a man considering a career in nursing, by all means go for it.

It is mostly women in nursing, but more and more men join the nursing workforce each year. It has very good pay and the strength (physical and mental) to be a nurse is underrated.

I'm working on becoming a CNA... and moving a 300 lb patient to wash is no easy task.

I have two very good male friends who are studying to be nurses, and one female friend. So I think it's more common than you realize.

There are no such things as women jobs and men jobs anymore. You can do anything you set your mind to do.
I work with many male nurses.
Go for it.
GOOD LUCK.......

most male nurses are gay
