Registered Nurses:Staffing agency or hospital?

I am a Nursing Student andf I am looking for options after graduation. What are the advantages of working for a nursing staffing agency? Do they pay more? I know that some agencies want nurses to have at least one year of experience. R.N's , please.

I have never worked for an agency but I can tell you that the advantage to staff nursing, esp as a new grad, is to learn "the ropes" so to speak. As an agency nurse you will have to be quick on your feet, learning each hospitals charting system as you go, as well as provide patient care. Agency nurses tend to make more money than staff nurses however that is not always the case. I work for a hospital system that has 5 hospitals in the area and I float between all five hospitals and have benefits. I am also compensated well for my flexibility, which, once you include benefits allows me to make more than agency nurse. The other trouble with agency is that they can call you off. You are not guaranteed the hours that they book you for. Good luck and remember you have a license to protect.
