Am I too old (37 years old) to become a Registered Nurse? Please help.? When I was in my mid-twenties I thought I was too old to return to college to get my nursing degree! LOL!!! I was pleasantly surprised to learn that nursing programs are unlike the typical college population - it is much more diverse in the age of the students as well as backgrounds. Never too old, sweetie. GO FOR IT!!! You're never too old to do what you want. Just look at it this way, even though you'll be around people at least 15 years younger than you, you will have more a bit more experience dealing with sick people than they have. After all, you've had to deal with yourself, parents, siblings, children, husband, co-workers, etc. You've heard it all, seen it all, and probably tried most of it all as well. But then again, you may also find other students in your class that are in the same age range as you are. So don't worry about it too much. Do what makes you happy. My wife obtained her RN at age 42. She now is doing very well at age 56. You are absolutely not too old. I know someone who started nursing school at 38. And you won't be around all only younger nurses. The median age for nurses these days is 40-50 something. You'll fit in just fine. And even if most of your fellow students are younger, so what?! It'll make you feel younger to hang out with them, and they'll benefit from your life experience. When I was a freshman in college, there was a woman in my freshman orientation who was 81 years old! It taught me that it's never too late in life to do what you want. Go for it and good luck! Yes, you should just check yourself into an old folks home and forget about the other 50 years of your life...they're over already! Nope, your not to old. In fact you will probably be one of the best students and nurses. You are mature and really know what you want. No, you are not. I'm 26 years old and studying in Nursing Diploma course, semester 2 right now. After this course, I'll become 30+ to become a Registered Nurse. My coursemates are 7 years younger than me but they like me very much to become their classmates. My lecturers never told me that I'm too old enough to become a Registered Nurse one day. Not @ all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go for it. It'll be the hardest thing you've done, but you'll have all the satisfaction of knowing how smart you actually are!!!! |
