I want to know how is it possible for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesist are paid 300k a year?

I was just looking at a blog and this guy stated that some CRNA's make 250-300k a year, how is this possible where I'm located (Kansas City,MO) the starting salary is 105,837 a year, I was also wondering is this salary high because of maybe 5-10 years into the career, and this guy was also from Kansas City, MO. Somebody help me out???

The anesthetist are paid based on what they do, not the name of their job. They aren't paid hourly, they are paid by the case. If a CRNA works privately, and works with an ENT surgeon, on a day when there are several ear PE tube insertions for example, there are numerous fast cases, but there are still numerous cases. In one place I worked many years ago, we would perform 18 bilateral PE tube insertions on children under general anesthesia, and be done by 11 am. This meant the CRNA had done 18 cases and had 1/2 the day left for other cases. The average CRNA in the country does not make $300,000 per year, but some can, and do, because they set up their practice to make the most profit with their time.

if you work in a clinic, and do outpatient procedures. a friend of my parents' is one in southern california. he makes around 500k a year providing anesthesia services to all of the plastic surgeons....

i believe it's possible. the company i work for pays out 180k a year as a gov't healthcare contractor in WA state.

i believe it's a very in demand position. it's possible because of his years in the job, but i think it's more related to the demand of the job.
