What exactly does an RN ( Registered Nurse) do?

I think that will be my future career... I just want to get more of an overview of what it will be like...

do intakes when patients arrive, discharge patients.....pass meds, give injections, hang iv fluids, antibiotics......call doctors, deal w/family members......wipe bum......do assessments......chart........depends on what type of floor or facility you work at......talk to some nurses (in person) before you go into this field to make sure you wanna do it....it can be pretty challenging....

Many times they do all the paper work and by law there are tasks an RN can perform thal LPN's can not. They often get the supervisory job titles and make more money than LPN's

an RN can be in charge of the care plan for the patient, the LPN can only be in charge of themselves. At some facilities, LPN's are not allowed to start IV's, hang IV drugs or give drugs IV Push. Other than that, patient care and providing emotional as well as other types of support. If you are intrested in being a RN, consider starting out as a CNA (certified Nursing Assistant) or a MA (medical assistant)- you will learn about Patient cares as well view RN's in action (so to speak)
