Is becoming a registered nurse a long process? What is the best way to break into this profession?

Is this a career that I could easily find employment? What is the average median income for being an RN? What steps should I take to become an RN? Can a man even be one? I would especially like help on this question from an RN or someone in the healthcare field! Thank you so much

no

I have been an RN for nearly 10 years now. Yes, with the proper education and motivation you can easily find a job...there is a serious nursing shortage these days. As for pay, it varies by state and is also determined by your education...for instance someone with BSN would make a somewhat higher hourly wage than an ADN nurse..but again, that depends on the facility and your location. And yes, men can become RNs, although the field is predominantly female.

As for steps to become an RN, I feel first you should ask yourself if you can handle the duties and education first. This is normally not a 9 to 5 job, is highly stressful, can lead to burnout, but if it is something you think you can do, you may love it as much as I do. You must first apply to and be accepted by an accredited school of nursing, usually after completing all the basic class requirements, such as math, history, English, Anatomy/Physiology, etc. Once you are in the nursing program you will learn the skills and knowledge to take the state boards, a requirement to work as an RN. I suggest doing some volunteering at a hospital or nursing home just to get acclimated to what the patient care setting is like.

I wish you the best of luck in whatever path you choose! :D
