Am a registered nurse looking for a career change quickly any ideas? |
i also possess a mentor qualification. Health Educator, or Public Health Nurse. The general public needs the inofrmation that you think of as mundane. People do not know how to eat nutritious foods, do not know the outcomes of STD's, or unplanned pregnancies. Older people need your help, not only with these items, but somebody to look after them and check in on them, point them in the direction of services available to them. People who are low-income, mentally ill, and mentally retarded can all use your help. So I guess case management at the Health Department, Dept. of Social Servces, Community Services Board, Agency on Aging, and the list goes on and on. You could always start your own community coalition (which takes lots of work) or your own business contracting out for Health Education, even for hospitals. You could even become a professional trainer for nurses. Legal nurse consultants are easily certified. And they make an excellent salary. I think case management is a great way for a nurse to use her clinical skills but it's not hands on. You can still make the kind of $$$ that you're accustomed to making. It's especially good for older nurses who may be tired of running up and down the corridors. So, depending upon your age. How drastic of a change are you loooking for? Do you want to get out of the medical field altogether? Sorry to hear this as we always have a shortage of good nurses. A few I know have started their own businesses as a service to lawyers. They take medical records from a case, review them, explain medical terminology to lawyers, look for any apparent errors. This is an invaluable service. Check it out. u can always start your own elderly care,by u being a nurse,u wont have to hire one. |
