Sick note...? |
I work for the NHS,I have been off sick for now 2weeks with Bronchitis, I'm still not feeling well at all,but the problem I'm having is my ward Sister (the boss) keeps ringing my phone asking when i am going to be back at work, even tho she knows I have a two week sick note, Also another member of staff had got my number (i am not sure how she got it) and now she keeps ringing my phone asking the same questions (shes not a senior staff just a normal nurse like me) I feel like there stressing me out even more and adding to the reason why I don't feel like I'm getting any better. I've told my partner that I just want to keep the peace and I might go back this weekend, even tho I'm still no better and my sick note doesnt expire untill next weekend. I had sometime off Oct last year due to family problems and she's been funny with me since. I've only worked for the hospital for 7months and i think they will sack me soon but just would like peoples opinions on this... Can you be sacked if you have a sick note? Does she have right to phone me all the time? Has this happened to anyone else who works for the NHS and could I have some advice? Thank-you Thats terrible! They should respect your time to get better instead of hassling you, of course you would feel pressure to go back! But if you have a line from your doctor that says you are to be off work until a certain date, dont do it! You're off that length of time for a reason. If you go back not recovered, you might have to take more time off later because your likely to be ill again! Tell them when they phone next that you will return when your doctor says so and just dont answer the phone to them! Even better cos if they leave a answer message, you have that as evidence of harrasment when your ill and you can take it to HR where the sister will be dealt with by the right people. What she is doing is harrasment. I live in the US, so I don't know the legal issues you face, but that sounds like harassment. Also, I would think a nurse would realize that going to work ill not only prolongs your illness (and you'll have to be out again) but endangers co-workers. Personally, I'd turn off the phone and get some rest until the date your note expires. Firstly when she rings you next tell her if she rings again you will report her to the authorities for harrasement. explain that coming into work with bronchitis is not going to help you, your collegues and especially your patients. that you have a doctors certificate until next weekend and that you will not be back at work until that expires. Do not let these people brow beat you. Perhaps if you belong to the nursing union they might be able to help. who the hell do they think they are....!! no one should call you....the sister has no need to call you and like you have said this is putting extra stress on you and worry about losing your job, its unfair harrasssment and is totally wrong. this other nurse as well why why!!! why has she rang you. its a tough one but you need to speak to someone in HR dept of the hospital i'm not 100% but these calls sound unlawful to me. You should not return to work untill you are well and you have a sicknote now and dont have to even call your sister. ooooh i am so mad for you. this has happened to me before and i know how much extra worry it causes that you dont need when you are ill anyway. |
