Do you think Practical Nursing is a good major? Why? What do they do?

I am a senior confused about her major

Absolutely NOT! I just got finished reading an article about how people cannot afford to buy houses and the article said that practical nurses don't get paid well enough to afford to buy a house. In this area they don't earn much more than a nursing assistant. Either go for being a registered nurse or a nurse practitioner. Physical therapist also pays more. Salary DOES count so if you are going to the trouble of getting a higher education, then at least work at a job that is going to pay the bills. Also, a nurse has to work holidays and the ones I know have MANDATORY overtime.

work for the community

Practical nursing will not pay the bills. If you can go all the way to Registered Nurse, do that. Some colleges you can do the Practical then test for it and work while you work on other classes toward the RN and they even help pay. It's up to you how fast you want to get a diploma or Associates. Really, in today's world we need RN's. Also, look into other technical fields related to nursing such as Radiation Tech, Surg Tech, Ultrasound Tech, Dentistry, etc. There are many options besides nursing. If you are looking for an informative site, try www.allnurses.com and there are people there and forums to more explicitly answer your questions - good luck!
