Is calculus a requirement for most nursing programs?

As a highschool senior what math should i be taking? I'd really rather not take calc.

You will probably need some advance math in college, such as calculus.

No it's not.

No... you don't need calculus to be a nurse. I barely got through college algebra, but I can figure medications with ratio/proportion.

Below is a sample schedule for an 8-semester course of study in nursing at the Sinclair School of Nursing at the University of Missouri. The only math classes required are College Algebra (Math 1100) and statistics.

Nursing program at University level can be "School of Nursing", "Nursing Program", or " Concentration in Nursing." Some community collges, depending what part of country you reside in, also offer nursing program.

It is more competitive to be admitted in Nursing Program regardless what it is called. In order to be admitted, the higher level of math you complete the better. If your school offers Calculus and your grade is good enough, you should take it for the purpose of admission but not the purpose of preparation for the program because you don't really need calculus to be a nurse.

However, I always suggest students to take the most challenging courses as possible for numerious reasons. One is to open more doors for your future. What you have interest now may not be interested or less interested if compared to other program after you explore diverse offerings in colleges. In addition, the higher level course you take, the better chance you will be admitted to the college ranked higher on your college list.

Should you sacrifice your last year of high school or sacrifice the flexiblity to choose colleges? It is in your hand.
