Today me and my partner went to the hospital? |
My partner has just been told he has a tumour and he is going for a major surgery, this was 2 days ago. Today we both went for a pre op, this is to find out about my partners general health, and to ask more questions, The senior nurse that saw us was abrut rude, she was asking us what was my partner comming into hospital for, she had no idea, then she was complaining saying to another nurse " This is ridiculas bringing a person here who is going for major surgery". Then she said to us that she has been working since 7am and that there are only two nurses on. I had to point out to the nurse about only just being told about my partners tumour and that we were in great shock. She became a bit softer then and told us to come back the next day. But I think that is totally unprofessional attiude from her what do you think guys and how would you react to that. What a horrible experience. Unfortunately I think that a lot of nurses and doctors are void of empathy. It doesn't mean that they should treat you like that but probably it was one person having a bad day. Short staffing, long hours, and many patients probably has something to do with it. I don't think that is a excuse, but more the reality. It's not your fault that they are either having a bad day or just upset with their job. My biggest complaint is that the tests that are being done are not cheap. You and your partner deserve the very best care possible and this is not acceptable. I would find out how to complain (management) and be very calm about it. They definitely need to do something about the lack of bed side manners. It's not like your partner was drunk and belligerent and needed stitches or something like that...this is serious stuff and needs to be treated like that. Absolutely. It doesn't matter how long you've been on shift, you still have to be professional and courteous to patients. It's also a possible ethics violation to mention to another employee *anything* about a patient's medical status where anyone might hear. It's definitely a violation if the other nurse she was talking to was not assigned to your partner's care. I am sorry you are having an upsetting time on all fronts. I would have seriously chewed her up, filed a complaint, or punched her in the face. Why make such a big deal about it?????? |
