Should hospital pay specialized nurses more than senior nurses? |
Should nurses with more unique skills that are in demand be paid more than regular nurses? Doctors who are specialized make more than general practitioners so the same would most likely apply to nurses. I think so, but I am a ER nurse. They should be paid what their contract specifies. they do and they should Nurses with specialized skills have the same training as other nurses plus additional training in a specialty. It seems logical that they should be paid more under normal circumstances and especially if there is a shortage of a particular skill. That would be the only way to attract them from other areas I think that the more skills you have the more you should be paid. Let me also say that ALL nurses should be paid much more than they are. Yes, and these are harder to recruit for also. i believe they do -- just like traveling nurses all get different pay!!! yes, because they have spent more time money engery to learn the unique skills that are needed. Sure, they have had more training and probably paid for it. In Canada, Senior nurses have to have a Degree so enable them to be Charge Nurses.......a degree is a degree, regardless of where or how it's used. I think they should get paid the same. Sure, they have more intense training..If you took me off the hospital medical floor and put me in intensive care or cardiac care units I would probably kill all my patients, as I wouldn't be trained to know the special care and machines that they require..specialty RNs deserve more if only for the additional stress they endure...Regular RNs have stress also, but nothing like the ER, ICU, CCU, pedi ICU, and preemie nursery RNs. Surgical and ER nurses are under more pressure and perform different procedures than a floor nurse. Service required usually ensure that "specialty" and/or experience establish the rate. Some times specialties are compensated more than others. That is accepted by the nurses. As for Senior nurses, I gather you mean ones like myself over 60! I am paid quite well, have no problem with it!!! But then I have been a nurse for over 40 years too. why yes they should Actually, most of us were "specialty", I could not have done ICU, but I was a heck of an L&D nurse, and later a Spinal Cord Injury nurse. |
