What are my rights? I need to have peace and quiet in my own home! Please HELP!? |
Hi, I am studying for my exams for my BS in Nursing. My test is on Thursday and I have been studying for weeks. I have taken off from work and sent my children to the beach with my mother this week. I have gone through alot of trouble to have the time I need right now. I am missing my kids and my pay from work. Have you considered going to the library at the university you're attending? Or finding a different branch of your local public library--maybe one across town? Even if you're doing online classes, call around a few major colleges in your area and ask if non-students are allowed to use their library. (Law libraries are great--you won't hear a *peep* in them!) Otherwise--I don't know what to tell you. Maybe a nice, secluded spot at a city park?? Put on a set of head-phones and play soothing music! If the noise is in the daytime, there is nothing you can do about it! If they're doing construction, they should have a permit. Call your municipal offices, and check to see if they have one. If they don't, then you can ask that they cease the disturbances. Most municipalities also have a time limit as to when construction noise can occur, and your city offices can tell you what that is as well. If they're in violation, you can all the police to enforce it. Difficult as most noise ordinances come in after certain times. You could check with the local PD and see if there is an option or somehting you could do. Have you tried the local library? When I need to isolate myself, I go to a comfortable, reasonable, motel. Listening to Mozart, on a low volume, seems to help me focus. That doesn't work for everyone tho. When you remove yourself from the noise of your neighbor, the frustration is gone. The way it is now, emotion is over riding you ability to focus. Most states allow for noise, especially if it is due to construction, from 9:00am to 9:00pm. You are probably out of luck if your neighbor to not want to be quieter. The library is just across the street from you! Why not go there and study until they close and then continue at home after 9:00pm. If your neighbor insists on making noise past this hour, call the cops and they will see to it that he stops. Good luck o your exams! Unfortunately, you have no rights in this situation. The first suggestion is the best one. You can't tell him to stop during the day. He does have the right to improve his home, as long as he doesn't do it too late into the evening. You can't do anything bout the noise during the day as long as your neighbor has some kind of permit. The library is your best bet It sounds like you have talked yourself out of the obvious solution-talking to your neighbor. You don't have the energy to do the second solution- going to your grandmother's. |
