If you are a doctor/nurse working in england ,what is it like working in the NHS and hospitals?

i am thinking for a paramedic carrer or working as a adult nurse , but what the best place to study at and the best hospital?

Im sorry, but I have to disagree with everybody here and tell you how much I love my job, I work in A & E, yes the pay is not so good, but it does me! I work with a great gang of nurses who support each other and we have some great nights out. I must admit we dont get much support from management but if you do your job properly then you have nothing to worry about. I have been a nurse for 25 years and yes times have changed dramatically, but I still wouldnt swap my job for any other.

It's a thankless task wherever you go. Staff shortages, crap shifts. Ungrateful patients. Try another career. One that pays and doesn't destroy your life and soul.

I couldn't agree with the first answer more. I have worked in the NHS for 22 years and I can assure you, it's no life for a young energetic person who wants to go places.
The wages are abysmal and morale is so low that if you wanted to find it, you would have to get a shovel and dig for it.
If you really must be a nurse, then do your trainning and then join the armed forces and be an officer, or maybe the Merchant Navy, anywhere than in Britain in an NHS or Private Hospital.

Paramedics a bit different than being a nurse. You get to attend accidents, and hand patents over to the hospital once you've saved their lives.

Best way to become a paramedic is to do a bit of St Johns Ambulance work for exp. then get a job in an ambulance at your local hospital. A mate of mine just did his exam and is one position off paramedic. Hes been in the service for three years and all his education has been paid for by the NHS. He was in IT before this.

You need to be quite physical, and he happy to handle drunks and people who've forgotten to take their insulin. It can get quite violent.

ive been a nurse in the NHS for 20 years..........please consider another career. Im trying to get out of this job and colleagues are doing the same. We employ foreign nurses as english ones see the job for what it really is and are leaving in their droves.
