I want to work abroad someday, especially U.S. or Europe, Do people there discriminate Filipinos like me?

Hi, I'm jandeo from the Philippines. I'm a 2nd year nursing student, 17 years old. I really study hard, although i can say I'm not that inteligent, but i think my efforts are paying off. Anyway, do europeans and americans discriminate Filipino nurses like us? I consider myself a nice person because i have many friends. I really want to go there someday to have a better living and to send money to my parents and help my cousins in their studies (only child). But I'm thinking twice because peope there might not like me or something like that. I would appreciate a suggestion or an answer, thank you, especially if your from america or europe. <those who already answered by previous questions, you do not need to answer this 1>... MABUHAY!

You'll get both discrimination and some support, it's a mixed bag. Beware those that appear nice to You too quickly, they'll be the ones that are going to hurt You most. Make Your friendships slowly, accept the pain of loneliness and trust that feeling in Your tummy that tells You to beware. Stay in touch constantly with folks back home and be very cautious. God bless and good luck little one.

Well im an american i can say that if you get a nursing degree in there you'll more likely than not have to take more calses when you get here to get certified. I feel that most people in american like asians in general, i really like the immigrants from asian countries becuase they are hard working, dont cause a big fuss and seem to always try to better themselves and their families.

The U.S. is such a melting pot, most major cities have a Flip community (Houston has a large Flip community). You can't worry about who's gonna like you or not, you won't be able to get anywhere. You can't please everyone all the time no matter where your at, so just follow the rules and you'll be alright. Good luck!

I LOVE Filipinos! And I mean that in a sexual way.

There is absolutely nothing for you to be scared of. There is a very large Filipino community in the U.S and In Europe. Filipinos usually make excellent nurses and nannies. I had a Filipino nanny for 16 years. She was like part of our family....we adored her and still keep in touch. I think the biggest problem for you will be to get a Visa to enter whatever country you want to. Once you get in, it'll be OK. I live in Los Angeles and just about every nurse or nanny or technician I've encountered has been a Filipino. Filipinos are very committed and very hard working. Once you get your foot in the door, I'm sure you wont have any problems. I dont think theres a lot of discrimination against Filipinos at all (except immigration-wise). But most people know that Filipinos are an asset to any community and they work hard and contribute tremendously. If I were you, I wouldnt be scared. I'd do whatever it takes to get a Visa to the country of your choice and then it'll be smooth sailing from there. Your situation is very common among Filipinos I've known and if they could do it, why can't you? You're young, educated and you know what you want. So don't let anything stand in your way. And as far as the visa, don't give up. try, try, try, try as many times as it takes...you will eventually get it. As we speak, a lot of my friends who are moms to new babies are scrambling to find a good Filipino nurse/nanny for their kids, as they know that Filipinos are the best. Trust me, there is a demand for you, so bring your good nature and your skills and leave your fears behind. Good luck to you.

nope

not in canada...many filipino here ...and a large filipino community..i'm sure you will like it!!!
You'll find regardless of race you'll make many friends

A lot of people stereotype that filipinos are golddiggers. That's an opinion you can easily change though. Go for it if it's your dream.
